April 2006 Lithuanian food companies and farmers initiated the establishment of the Lithuanian Cluster of Food Sector - food industry enterprises and research institutions network (
www.namuk.lt). Its main purpose is food on the farm sector in Lithuania development, improving competitiveness, business and science subject’s cooperation.
The Cluster aim is to develop Lithuanian food industry, prepare it to absorb and effectively adapt advanced technologies from other industries (particularly biotechnology).
Fundamental niches in which the members of the cluster to develop its own activities are the development of functional food production and ´plants of future’ production (plant selection, cultivation, processing).
